Today was our last day at Little Atlin Lake. We had breakfast, loaded up, and started back toward Watson Lake.
We'd already driven this leg of the trip in the other direction, but this time it was shorter by an hour, so we had some time to stop and smell the roses. Around lunchtime we pulled into Rancheria Falls. There's a rest stop here with a picnic shelter and some pit toilets, and a 500m walk through the boreal forest to the falls themselves. The trail has been groomed for even those with mobility problems, so over the rougher sections, there exists a wooden walkway, that makes it possible even for someone in a wheelchair to travel to the falls and take in the view. The other benefit of the walkway is that the forest floor isn't as torn up as it would be if visitors were easily able to just walk where they pleased.
When we pulled into Watson Lake, we first returned to the Campground Services RV park, and got a camping spot. Then, we headed over to the Signpost Forest, where people the world over have nailed their sign to one of the many posts driven into the ground. There must be hundreds of posts, and thousands of signs. While we were there, we met a couple from Australia who are touring the world in a homebuilt buggy. In the last two and a half years, they've put over seventy thousand kilometers on the thing, and it's still going. Good on ya. We spent about a half-hour chatting with the builder about his rig, his trip, and the auto industry in general.
From there, we headed over the grocery store to stock up, since we were going to be heading down Highway 37 back to Prince George, and that way has an abundance of wilderness and a lack of population. Then we settled down for the night and tried to get some sleep, a task made more difficult by the encroaching high-pressure system, which brought with it warm nights, and even warmer days.
