More panorama madness

Last night I went and shot a few panorama photos around town. Today I stitched them together and uploaded them. You can see them in my new Panorama Albumn.

Making multi-shot panoramas is like landing an airplane: start off on the right foot, and the rest pretty much takes care of itself. All three of the landscape panoramas I shot yesterday were done with the assistance of a tripod, which I was careful to level before shooting the sequence. This means that there's only one axis of rotation for the stitching software to deal with, so the automated stitching works very very well. I've tried freehand-shooting panoramas, and the results were unsatisfactory. I suppose I could have made them work with some manual intervention, but like with any photography, it's easier to get the right shot than it is to fix it in the darkroom later.
