The trip from Hudson's Hope to Fort Nelson was my first taste of the Alaska Highway. I was rather disappointed. The scenery was bland and uneventful. There is no reason to travel this stretch of highway other than to get to the other end. Of course, the original purpose of the Alaska Highway was to move military materiel from the continental United States to Alaska during the Second World War.

I got an early start on Monday morning. Out of bed at 5:30, I shovelled in a quick breakfast, threw on some clothes, and jumped into my already-loaded truck. I was wheels-up at 6:30, bound for Prince George. When I got there, I transferred my stuff into my dad's truck, and we took off, Scamp in tow, headed north.

Since Canada Day fell on a Wednesday this year, my week's been totally screwed up. I feel like another week sneaked in there somewhere. Especially since this Canada Day was far busier for me than usual.

The latest chapter in my coffee-table-building saga sent me looking for dowel markers. Apparently, they've nearly all ascended to the metaphysical state of wild geese.

Got a haircut today, which is a big deal concerning the weather. On a hot day like this, (27°C), You sure notice losing a pound of thick curly locks from the top of your head. I've had a lot of people cut my hair over the years, and lots of them have commented on how wonderful and thick my hair is.

This weekend I found my cat using the bathroom sink as a toilet. "Not good," thought I, "for he only does that when he's sick." My concern only deepened as I noticed a reddish tinge in the little spot of urine in the sink.

Something I've run across since my switch to Compiz on my laptop, which I figured I'd report here so that I can find the answer later on. (and some other reader out there might find it useful too)

The CHDK firmware add-on is now available for the Canon SX10 IS. This firmware is a non-destructive (runs off the SD card, doesn't overwrite your camera's own firmware) addition that enables many advanced and cool features that aren't available in the camera from the factory.
